John Heltzel, Owner and Principal

A registered architect in Virginia, Washington, D.C. and Maryland, John is praised by clients for his willingness to listen and collaborate, his creativity, and his 20+ years of experience in residential and commercial design and construction projects.

After spending four years as project architect with Karl E. Kohler Associates, John founded Heltzel AIA in 1991. Establishing a solid reputation for service, the firm has won numerous awards and recognitions from the American Institute of Architects (AIS) and the Northern Virginia Builders Association (NVBA).

John is firmly committed to the community. Inspired by his experience designing homes, not just houses, John is especially motivated to help reduce homelessness in Northern Virginia.

He currently serves on the board of Northern Virginia Family Services, and has served as vice president of SERVE, Inc. He has volunteered for the American Red Cross, and the Boys and Girls Club of Manassas, and is currently active in:
